| BASKARACHARYA |
Bhaskaracharya is the most well known ancient indian mathematician. He was born on 114 A.D.At Bijjada bida in the sahyadari hill. His father mahesvara himself was a famous astrologer. In many ways baskara represents the peak of mathematical knowledge of 12th century. He was the head of the astronomical observatory at Ujjain.
HIS CONTRIBUTIONS
He was the first to declare that any number divided by zero is infinity and that the sum of any number and infinity is infinity.
2. He was notable for his treatment of negative numbers which he considered as debts or losses and also for his treatise on arithmetic and measurement.
3. Baskara also handled efficiently arithmetic involving negative numbers.
4.Baskara was also concerned with series, permutations, linear, and quadratic equations, mensuration and astronomy.
5. He also gave a method for deriving sines for angles of every degree.
6. He found formula for finding the area and volume of sphere given below,
Area of sphere=4×area of a circle
Volume of a sphere=area of sphere×1/6 of its diameter.
7.His most celebrated work Lilavathi includes notations, the operations with integers and fractions, the rule of three, the most commericial rules, interests, series, alligation, permutations, mensurations, and a little algebra, the rules relating to zero are alsi given to the effect that a+0=a,powers of 0 are 0 and a.0=0
8. The fundamentals of rolles theorem were orginated by him
9. In differential calculas he was the first mathematician who presented examples related to differential co-efficient.
10.He had explained the concepts of permutation combination with example.
CONCLUSION
Baskaracharya was a teacher mathematician and an astronomer. His contribution to astronomy and mathematics in 12th century was unparalled and significant.
Baskaracharaya's innumerable contribution had earned him on outstanding position among the ancient hindu mathematicians.
He dies in ujjain in 1185.
